Choosing a Book
Step 1 - Have a look in the library bookshelves - choose a title which sounds interesting. The 'Recently Returned' bookshelf at the library door is a good indicator of other books that pupils have taken out and enjoyed.
Step 2 - Look at the front cover. Does it make you want to read on? Step 3- Read the publisher's blurb on the back of the book. Does it interest you? Step 4 - Now read the first paragraph. Are you going to read on? Step 5 - Are you ready to take it out or are you going to search for another one? If you find one or two (or three) that you like, keep a list so you will know which book to choose next time Handy Tip:-
If you liked the book you chose, it can be a good guide when getting other books. Often, if you look up the book on a website, it will give you a list of books that are similar. For instance, go to the Amazon listing for one of your favourite books, and scroll down to the section titled "Customers who bought this item also bought". Don't stick to just this one category though. Try different books, because you never know what you will find! |
